{"id":1983,"date":"2018-10-28T12:36:27","date_gmt":"2018-10-28T16:36:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thatsoftwareguy.com\/blog\/?p=1983"},"modified":"2018-10-28T12:36:27","modified_gmt":"2018-10-28T16:36:27","slug":"printing-mailing-labels-from-salesforce","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thatsoftwareguy.com\/blog\/2018\/10\/28\/printing-mailing-labels-from-salesforce\/","title":{"rendered":"Printing Mailing Labels from Salesforce"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Thanksgiving and Christmas are just around the corner &#8211; would you like to send cards to your customers?\u00a0 Doing this with Salesforce and a Dymo printer is quite straightforward.<\/p>\n<p>You may want to create a new field in your Contacts account that allows you to mark customers who should receive cards.\u00a0 I have a Status field that allows me to find customers who have a Support agreement with me, and I select on that basis.\u00a0 (If you&#8217;re unsure how to add a new field to an object, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=HJdoPYb6mjw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">watch this video from Salesforce<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>In Salesforce, go to Reports-&gt;New Report.\u00a0 \u00a0Select &#8220;Accounts &amp; Contacts,&#8221; and use the report type &#8220;Contacts &amp; Accounts.&#8221;\u00a0 \u00a0Update the columns so you use the following fields:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<table cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"bottom\"><span style=\"color: #56585b; font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: medium;\">First Name<\/span><\/td>\n<td valign=\"bottom\"><span style=\"color: #56585b; font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: medium;\">Last Name<\/span><\/td>\n<td valign=\"bottom\"><span style=\"color: #56585b; font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: medium;\">Account Name<\/span><\/td>\n<td valign=\"bottom\"><span style=\"color: #56585b; font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: medium;\">Mailing Street<\/span><\/td>\n<td valign=\"bottom\"><span style=\"color: #56585b; font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: medium;\">Mailing City<\/span><\/td>\n<td valign=\"bottom\"><span style=\"color: #56585b; font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: medium;\">Mailing State\/Province<\/span><\/td>\n<td valign=\"bottom\"><span style=\"color: #56585b; font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: medium;\">Mailing Zip\/Postal Code<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>If required, you can also add Mailing Country.\u00a0 Once you have all your fields selected, use filters to reduce the list to only the contacts you want, selecting on the field you used to determine if the contact gets a card.\u00a0 In my case, that would be the Status field.\u00a0 Then do an Export, and choose &#8220;Details Only&#8221; with format CSV.<\/p>\n<p>In the Dymo Label app on your computer, use File-&gt;Import Data-&gt;New.\u00a0 The default label is Address Barcode on Top, but you can change this if you like.\u00a0 I like the address label without a barcode.\u00a0 Select your data file (the CSV you just created from Salesforce), and click Next.\u00a0 On the &#8220;Arrange Data Fields on the Label Layout&#8221; page, check the box labelled &#8220;Use first row as field names.&#8221;\u00a0 To create the label, you just double click on each field, and lay it out on the label.\u00a0 By the time you&#8217;re done, you should have something like this:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1986\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thatsoftwareguy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Dymo_Salesforce_Contact_Layout-300x124.png\" alt=\"Dymo label for Salesforce Contact\" width=\"300\" height=\"124\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thatsoftwareguy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Dymo_Salesforce_Contact_Layout-300x124.png 300w, https:\/\/www.thatsoftwareguy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Dymo_Salesforce_Contact_Layout-768x317.png 768w, https:\/\/www.thatsoftwareguy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Dymo_Salesforce_Contact_Layout-1024x423.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.thatsoftwareguy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Dymo_Salesforce_Contact_Layout.png 1045w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now just print them out and get cracking on those holiday cards!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Thanksgiving and Christmas are just around the corner &#8211; would you like to send cards to your customers?\u00a0 Doing this with Salesforce and a Dymo printer is quite straightforward.
